Wedding Tools

As we started to plan for the wedding, I thought I needed to start somewhere. I am not an event planner (quite the opposite actually haha!) but it's my wedding so yeah, plan. Haha! So here are some of the tools that helped me a lot:

Download an iPad app for wedding.

I found this app on the Apple store called Easy Weddings. You can read more about it and download it here. It has the following tools inside it:

  • Budget - The budget module lets you keep track of your wedding budget and even makes price suggestions for individual items and services based on your overall wedding budget.

  • To Do - Containing 135 suggestions of what needs to be done, and in what order to do them, your To Do list will keep you on track for stress-free wedding preparations.

  • Guests - Whether you’re having a big wedding or a small one, your Planner allows you to manage your entire guest list from within the app. The guests pulls Facebook contacts to let you not miss anyone!

  •  Suppliers - Keep details of suppliers in one spot. You can even take pictures and store them with your entry.

  • Notes - Keep notes on everything from potential wedding dates to appointments you don’t want to forget.

  • Seating - A fuss-free, visual way to organize who’s sitting where (and with whom) on your big day. It gets data from Guest list

I liked that app more on the budget monitoring. It is so far the best tool I've used for it. It tracks the budget, cost and how much was already paid and owed for every category. With the guest list, not so much since it utilizes Facebook contacts only (how about Dale's guests? Haha). The to do list is also helpful as it lists down and counts how much you have to do before the wedding. You can check them off on the list- helpful!

Guest list Organizer

For this one I say, nothing beats the old excel style. Haha! Although I tried looking for apps, I still feel that typing it on the laptop is way easier than doing it on a tablet. What I did was using my MS Excel 2013, I searched for wedding templates. I found one for the invite tracker and it looks like this:

The RSVP Tracker is where you list the names of the guests with their contact information. Filling them up will help your Maid of Honor reach everyone!

  • Sent? - Tracks if invitations were already given

  • RSVP - Yes, No and Tentative

  • Party - Seats for the guest

  • Guest - Bride, Groom or Other
From the sidebar, it displays the countdown for the wedding, Attendees count and outstanding invitations to send. Neat huh?

The RSVP summary shows the statistics for the invites. For this one, I say that it beats all other apps I've seen. There are also templates for budgets but I still like the app above since most Excel templates don't have the budget vs actual and paid/ owed fields.

Wedding Expos

This is a must I think for all wedding planning. We started going to fairs last year, September I think. It made us visualize what kind of wedding we wanted to have and most importantly, see how much a wedding can cost. During our first Expo, I was stunned.. Ang mahal pala ikasal!! Hahaha! But great thing about expos is that they give big discounts if you booked on site. And since Dale and I are going to pay for everything at the wedding, we need discounts!

So far, the best organizer from the best expo we attended was Themes & Motifs. Last March 9, we went to their expo at SMX Convention center and it was really organized!! All suppliers were organized in the venue in such a way the categories were in one location and it was very convenient for everyone.

From the expo, we got a lootbag of wedding magazines and the W@W wedding primer. The W@W Wedding Primer is a guidebook to Filipino weddings.  It is a handy bag-size book written with the detail-conscious bride in mind--giving her an indispensable reference guide in planning her big day. Together with lists, checklists and fill-in planning forms, the book features brief yet concise articles containing time-tested advice from industry experts coupled with "life-tested" tips from actual brides and newlyweds.

Just a tip though, if you are planning on going to an expo, research all suppliers that are attending so you'll have an idea where to start. There are hundreds of suppliers there! Some will fit your budget, some will not. So it's best if you know what you are looking for and who among the suppliers will be able to help you. Also, they present the best of the best things they offer. So be sure to research before booking on the spot. I think Themes & Motifs will have a series of Expos, I'll be sure to join them. Hehe!

The Internet and Blogs

Ofcourse research will come mostly from the internet. There are so many ideas that you can read from searching and reading blogs (like this one! haha!)

So these are some of  the tools that we use n preparation for the wedding. Hope this helps others too!

Reception Venue Hunt

Until now we haven't booked our reception venue, I KNOW!! When we booked Hizon's, Irin panicked that until now we hadn't decided yet with the venue. Initially, we wanted North Forbes Pavillion and our minds was set to it. But because we took too long to arrange the booking, by the time we actually went to the office, it was already booked. Anyway for Makati weddings, you can check them out.

The Church Hunt

The biggest piece of them all, where we say "I Do". Dale and I were both Thomasians. So of course, we wanted to get Married and the UST Church. There was no second thoughts at first, we dropped by as early as September 2013 to book the Church. But admin people told us that they'll start reservations for November 2013 after the semestral break. So we waited.

The Promise

One of the things I'm most excited about if the Wedding Vow. Well I'm not even sure if personal vows are allowed at St. John Bosco, haha! But I'm excited to write one. I was looking at Facebook when I came through this article . It was a blog about revising your own vows you made during your wedding, something more realistic. She said, " Yes, marriage vows are meant to be idyllic and inspiring, to remind us that true love still exists, to bring an entire room to tears. Our wedding day promises are about love and hope and how we'll come from our best, not about housecleaning or self-development or what to do when we feel like murdering each other. Imagine the nervous laughter (or horror) if someone vowed to only hate her husband for short periods of time? None of us can possibly know at the outset what our marriage will bring or what tools we will need. Marriage has challenged almost every assumption I had about myself and my husband. It has asked me to stret...
